Outgrowing their existing sanctuary and education building, Covenant Church called upon GSMA to design a multi-phase master plan to expand their campus at 4949 Caroline Street. GSMA developed the Covenant Church Program by involving all members of the congregation and staff. This mission clarification process built such an atmosphere of collaboration and consensus that the fundraising goals for the Phase One work have already been met. The congregation unanimously accepted the proposed Master Site Plan in early 2016.
The Covenant Church Master Plan incorporates a new fellowship hall, additional education space for children and adults, an enlarged sanctuary, and new administrative spaces while maintaining the simple and welcoming feeling of the current campus. Parking is provided on site and through an innovative contract with a neighboring office building to provide Sunday service and event parking.
The plan preserves the original “front yard” on Caroline Street, including the labyrinth and gardens, in order to protect its park-like function in a very quickly densifying neighborhood. A new central courtyard brings the administration, education, fellowship and worship spaces together while sound-separating them enough so more than one church activity can happen at the same time.
The first phase of construction is scheduled to start in Summer 2017.
